I have been photographing many of the objects that my grandmother once used: old lipsticks, toothbrushes, clothing. All of these personal effects, repeatedly handled and integral to her life, have lost their function with her death. These possessions seem to hold the resonance of my grandmother's private persona, and the photographs I take of them offer a glimpse into her life. I sometimes capture fleeting moments, while in another situation I slow down to the point of observing every hair on her abandoned comb. Prior to her passing and in the year following her death, I have been exploring the relationships between myself, my mother and grandmother. In my most recent work, I have been observing my mother as she learns to live alone for the first time in her life.
