Elephant birds, Neanderthals, and mastodons may seem like the contents of a museum’s natural history cabinet, but in my work they are the subjects of fictional narratives. These narratives focus on the lives of uncanny characters that are derived from personal interests. The sculptures evoke each character’s situation and journey. Whether it is a massive skeleton exhumed and constructed within a home, an extinct colossal bird resurrected from the past, or a mysterious finding of ancestral remains, I create paths between facts and fictions with an investment in human sense and inquiry. Through these sculptural tableaux the fantastic lives of these characters come into existence.
