My work has always been concerned with façade and the difference between what is shown and what is kept hidden. With the explosion of Internet services, it is possible to live without leaving one’s own dwelling. At the same time, companies and marketers have become very interested in making one feel prized and individualized. Sites such as amazon.com welcome me when I log on and offer personalized recommendations. When I lose an auction, eBay sends me email with similar items that I might like to bid on.

I am interested in the construction of identity in such a society. Am I who I think I am, or is my sense of self built around the endless recommendations, marketing strategies, and “special personalized offers just for you” that I am constantly bombarded with?
