Watercolor on paper
18.75 x 12.75 inches

My Gut Feelings series consists of drawings that represent visceral reactions to current events. These are tonal works done in black watercolor on paper, featuring biomorphic forms whose rhythmic variations suggest the endless chain of consumption and digestion.
The corporeal world of these images is illuminated from unseen sources that expose the hidden internal body as it responds to its external environment. Artistic influences include the anthropomorphic sculptures of surrealists Louise Bourgeois and Dorothea Tanning that give the unconscious shape through life forms. Also seen in some of these works is the visual language of medical illustration, using overlaid arrows and geometric shapes to symbolize the process of breaking apart one organism in order to nourish the life of another.
